InPASSING Interview
Kori interviewed InPASSING.
1. To start off, could you state your names and what everyone plays in the band?
Robby Clay - Vocals
Sterling Plemmons - Guitar/vocals
TroyLano -Drums/vocals
Brooks Potteiger - Guitar
Joe Tavarez - Bass
2. You guys are from Orlando correct? What is the music scene like there typically and how is InPASSING different?
Yes. The music scene here is amazing. Lots of talented bands from the area. We like to think our level of professionalism is what separates us from most bands in the area. We also work very hard at promoting ourselves by getting out there and meeting people one on one.
3. How long have you all been a band? How'd you all meet?
In our present form we have been a band for about 2 years. Brooks and Troy have played in bands together since high school. Robby met Troy and Brooks in 2005 and Sterling met them on tourwith his old band in 2004. Robby, Troy and Brooks began working together in various projects soon after meeting. In 2008 Sterling's old band broke up and he moved to Orlando from North Carolina to work with the rest of the guys. In early 2009 we added Joe to the line up which brings us to our present form.
4. How are you all trying to branch out? You can't stay in Orlando forever.
Tour!!! This summer we are writing a full length album with producer James Wisner. We will also be playing a lot of regional shows during that time and after that we will be back out on the road!
5. Are there any new projects you all are currently working on?
Yes, we are writing a full length album.
6. What would you all say influences your music? How would you all describe the music you make?
Everything in our lives influences us. As well as tons of other musicians. Our music is modern pop rock. We try and stay relevant with what's going on in our genre and at the same time be creative and inventive with our writing.
7. What do you all do when you aren't working on or playing music?
We're big movie fans! Any new movie that's out we're one of the first to see it :) But even when we're not working we're still "working". For instance, when we're downtown watching a show or at some party we're still networking, talking about what we do and making connections.
8. If there's one thing you could change about your musical careers, what would it be and why?
I don't think there's anything I would change. I'm a firm believer in "Everything happens for a reason". I'm grateful for what I have :)
9. Where do you see yourselves, or what do you see yourselves doing by this time next year?
Writing for other artist, touring and finishing our full length.
10. Are there any struggles you have faced together as a band? How did you overcome them?
Being in a band is a lot like being in a dating relationship. There are times when we get upset with each other for whatever reason but we all love each other and believe we have something special. So whatever struggle we have is easy to overcome.
This or that
Let's play a game! For each of the two options, pick one or the other.
1. Doggies or kitties - Dogs
2. Pancakes or waffles - Waffles
3. Guitarists or bass players - Guitarist
4. I would hope that Troy remembers meeting myself (Kori) and Heather while we were in line waiting to see the Sassyback Tour and he was selling CDs to people in line. By Heather's request, I ask Kori or Heather? - Ha! That's like choosing a favorite daughter. It just can't be done!
